Our Volunteers
We owe a lot to our volunteers - and none more so than our small group of hardy helpers on Tuesdays. The group is working with Ranger & Ecologist Samuel Lindsay on constructing and installing a number of boardwalks in the Balnakailly oak woodland. These will benefit both walkers and the woodland. Understandably, folk are avoiding the most boggy path areas but in so doing are creating larger areas trodden underfoot. The boardwalks will help the vegetation either side of the walkways recover and thrive. We have now also completed the clearance of the sitka spruce from the path skirting the lower edge of the pines at the top of the oak woodland (see before and after photos), so that a circular walk is possible again, following last week's storm. Remember, there is currently no access through the spruce from the oak woodland to the Balnakailly settlement.
