Ecological Surveying

Historically there has been no ecological surveying at Balnakailly rainforest. Heritage Coordinator Amie set up the INaturalist Balnakailly Rainforest Ecological Observations Project in April 2026. Please help us to develop an ongoing record of Balnakailly ecology by uploading your observations to INaturalist. In April 2026, Bute based volunteer and PDA Ecological Surveying Student Melissa Peakman led a group of volunteers in the first annual Balnakailly Ecological Surveying week resulting in the Annual Habitat Monitoring Report, which in turn informed the Phase 1 Habitat Survey. Melissa gave hours of her time during Summer 2026 to completing these reports (See links below). She is currently finalising a comprehensive Habitat Baseline & Ecological Data Review for the site, which will be available here shortly.
