Have you stepped the Stag’s Trod? New trails in Bute Community Forest

As lockdown restrictions ease, work has progressed outdoors in Bute’s Community Forest. The Woodlanders – aka Jessica Herriot and Gordon Stevenson – and volunteers have created exciting new trails in Moss Wood (Shalunt Wood).

The Poetry Trail – the completed loop

The Poetry Trail has now been completed as a circular walk – follow the blue green posts and the poems on slates upon them. Walk, read – and enjoy the natural woodland.

The Viewpoint

At the top of the poetry trail, there is a new spur to a viewpoint that looks back down across the Kyles of Bute, and south across the island and mainland. Rest at the viewpoint on the rustic seating and breathe the island air.

The Stag’s Trod – have you stepped it?

Above the viewpoint, follow the trail upwards – further up till the trail meets the West Island Way. It is steep, and not for the faint-hearted.

The Back o’ Beyond

Off the poetry trail on its downwards section, cross the burn to the Back o’ Beyond. See what awaits you there…..
